2015-2018 · 2.0L N20 4-cylinder turbo (245 hp) + electric motor (113 hp), 313 hp combined, 9.0 kWh PHEV
BMW's first plug-in hybrid X5 pairs the 2.0-litre N20 four-cylinder turbo with an 83 kW electric motor integrated into the ZF 8HP automatic. Sales were driven largely by tax incentives, so many examples were company cars that were rarely plugged in. The N20 engine is a well-known quantity in the BMW range, and the ZF gearbox is proven, but the PHEV-specific components (high-voltage battery, EME module, fuel tank pressure sensor) add layers of complexity and potential cost that pure-combustion X5s do not have.· more· less
