2013-2018 · 2.0L N47D20D (218 hp) / B47D20 (224 hp) 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel

The 325d slots between the 320d and 330d as a higher-output version of the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel. It delivers near-six-cylinder performance with four-cylinder economy and was popular with company car buyers and long-distance commuters. Pre-2015 cars use the N47D20D engine; the 2015 LCI onwards switched to the improved B47.

Strong torque from 2.0L four-cylinder Good fuel economy for its power

Buy if: You want a quick diesel cruiser and can find a post-2015 LCI model with B47 engine and full service history.
Avoid if: You are looking at a pre-2015 N47 engine car without confirmed timing chain replacement or mostly do short urban trips.

Common Problems
Reliable when maintained, but timing chain needs attention on pre-2015 cars
The 325d shares its engine with the more common 320d, meaning issues are well-documented and parts are widely available. The most significant concern is the N47 timing chain on pre-2015 models. Post-2015 B47 engines are substantially more reliable. EGR recall status should always be verified. With regular servicing at correct intervals and occasional longer drives, the 325d can deliver dependable high-mileage ownership.
