The facelifted BMW iX xDrive45 replaces the pre-LCI xDrive40, gaining a larger 94.8 kWh usable battery (up from 71 kWh), more power (408 hp, up from 326 hp), and up to 602 km WLTP range. Built on BMW's dedicated EV platform at the Dingolfing plant, it sits above the iX3 and competes with the Mercedes EQE SUV, Audi Q8 e-tron, and Tesla Model X. The LCI brings revised exterior styling, improved seats, and updated iDrive software.· more· less

Common Problems
Software maturity improving, but early ownership may still involve dealer visits
The iX LCI benefits from lessons learned on the pre-LCI model, with improved software stability and battery manufacturing processes. The electric drivetrain itself is robust, and routine maintenance costs are genuinely low compared to ICE equivalents. The main concerns are software-related (iDrive crashes, 12V management, charging glitches), which BMW has addressed through multiple OTA updates but not entirely eliminated. Air suspension adds a layer of complexity and potential cost that simpler EVs avoid. Most risk items are either recall-covered (free) or software-fixable. Budget for the possibility of one or two dealer visits per year for software updates, and keep the 12V battery healthy by not leaving the car parked for weeks without charging.
