The facelifted BMW iX is BMW's flagship electric SUV, built at Plant Dingolfing on a bespoke EV platform. The xDrive60 replaces the pre-facelift xDrive50, gaining more power (544 hp, up from 516 hp), a larger 109 kWh usable battery delivering up to 700 km WLTP range, and improved motor efficiency. The LCI brings redesigned seats addressing a common pre-facelift complaint, recalibrated suspension, and updated iDrive software. Air suspension is available as an option and common on higher-spec cars.· more· less

Common Problems
LCI improvements help, but complex luxury EV requires attention
The BMW iX xDrive60 LCI benefits from lessons learned during three years of pre-facelift production. Key improvements include better seats, updated software, more efficient motors, and improved battery thermal management. However, the platform-level issues that affected the pre-facelift iX (12V drain, software instability, charging quirks, air suspension on equipped cars) have not been completely eliminated. The 8-year / 160,000 km battery warranty provides strong protection for the most expensive component. Battery degradation data from pre-facelift models is encouraging, with most owners reporting single-digit percentage capacity loss after 2-3 years. For used buyers, verifying all recall campaigns and testing both AC and DC charging are the most important pre-purchase steps. Day-to-day, the most common annoyance is software glitches rather than mechanical failures.

The BMW iX has been subject to approximately 10 recall campaigns since its 2021 launch, primarily affecting 2022-2023 production vehicles. The LCI xDrive60 (2025+) should ship with most fixes already applied, but always run a full VIN check with BMW to confirm. Some recalls can be resolved via over-the-air software updates. Contact BMW directly or use the KBA (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt) recall database for European vehicles.
