Performance flagship of the third-generation X1 (U11), launched late 2023 with a 300 hp Miller-cycle B48 engine and 7-speed Aisin DCT. The first M Performance X1 ever, using a FWD-based platform with xDrive on demand. Most cars on the used market are still inside factory warranty, which softens early-life ownership risk. Main concerns are software (iDrive 9 bugs), DCT smoothness at low speeds, plus several active recalls including the integrated brake module and B-pillar reinforcement.· more· less

Common Problems
New platform with active recalls and software growing pains
The X1 M35i is too new (late 2023 launch) for definitive long-term reliability data. The B48 engine itself is well-proven and the M-tuned version got reinforced internals. The real concerns are software (iDrive 9 bugs, DCT calibration) and the integrated brake module recall, which BMW has had to expand because the first round of replacement parts also failed. Most cars are still inside BMW's 2-year factory warranty, which softens financial exposure significantly. Buy with all recalls verified completed.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Integrated Brake (IB) module - 2023-2025 (recall 24V-104, later expanded) Critical - verify completed
B-pillar reinforcement plate - 2025 X1 (Sept-Oct 2024 production) Verify if applicable
Seat belt pinched by interior trim - some 2023 X1 M35i units Verify if applicable
Front seat belt retractor torsion bar damage Verify if applicable
The X1 U11 has multiple active recalls. The integrated brake system recall (24V-104) is particularly important because BMW had to re-issue it - the first round of replacement parts were also defective. Contact a BMW dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Likely still active on most 2023-2024 cars
Rust perforation warranty 12 years (BMW standard)
Paint warranty 3 years
Extended warranty availability BMW Premium Selection / BSI extension available
Most X1 M35i U11 cars on the used market are still inside the original 2-year BMW factory warranty (deliveries began November 2023). BMW Germany typically offers no kilometre limit on the factory warranty. Verify exact warranty status with BMW using the VIN. An extended warranty is strongly recommended given the active recalls and software complexity.
