The F30 335i is the inline-six petrol in the sixth-generation 3 Series, producing 306 hp from the N55 single-turbo engine through a 6-speed manual or ZF 8HP automatic. Positioned between the four-cylinder 328i and the M3, it offers strong straight-line performance in a refined package. The N55 is widely regarded as more dependable than its twin-turbo N54 predecessor. It was replaced by the 340i with the B58 engine in the 2015 LCI facelift.· more· less

Common Problems
Robust engine, but oil seals and cooling system need attention
The N55 inline-six is fundamentally a strong engine that regularly reaches 200,000+ km with proper care. It is a clear improvement over the N54 twin-turbo in terms of reliability. However, oil gasket leaks from the valve cover and oil filter housing are nearly universal with age and mileage, and the electric water pump requires preventive replacement. Budget for these known items and the 335i can be a rewarding, dependable ownership experience. Cars with documented service history and proactive gasket maintenance are significantly lower risk.
