The F01 750i was BMW's V8 flagship from 2008 to 2015, pairing the 4.4-litre twin-turbo N63 with the ZF 8HP automatic, air suspension, and a cabin packed with technology. Pre-LCI models (2009-2012) use the original N63 with a well-documented history of oil consumption, coolant leaks, and injector failures that led to a class-action settlement. The LCI (2012-2015) received the significantly improved N63TU with Valvetronic, forged internals, and revised valve stem seals. Heavy depreciation makes these accessible at a fraction of their original price, but V8 complexity and flagship electronics keep ownership costs firmly in premium territory.· more· less

Buy if: You want V8 flagship luxury at a fraction of its original price and can find a well-documented LCI (2012+) example with complete service history and verified recall completion.
Avoid if: You cannot absorb surprise repair bills in the €2,000-5,000 range, or you are considering a pre-LCI (2009-2012) model without verified Customer Care Package completion.

Common Problems
High-risk V8 that demands careful maintenance and a healthy repair budget
The original N63 (2009-2012) is one of BMW's most problematic modern engines, with oil consumption, coolant leaks, injector failures, and timing chain issues all well-documented. The N63TU in the LCI (2012-2015) addressed many of these weaknesses with forged internals, revised seals, and improved cooling, but it is not immune. Air suspension and complex electronics are shared concerns across all F01 models. A well-maintained LCI example with complete service history is a substantially safer purchase than a pre-LCI car. Budget generously for maintenance and keep a repair reserve.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Electronic auxiliary water pump fire risk (2012-2015 production) Critical - verify completed
N63 Customer Care Package: oil consumption, injectors, battery, valve stem seals (2009-2013) Verify completed
Takata airbag inflator replacement (2008-2015) Verify completed
Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve heater short-circuit fire risk (2010-2015) Verify completed
N63 fuel injector limited warranty extension (10 years / 190,000 km) Verify if applicable
Contact BMW with the VIN to verify all recalls and service campaigns have been completed. The Customer Care Package and auxiliary water pump recall are particularly important. The fuel injector warranty extension may still apply to lower-mileage LCI examples.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all F01 models
N63 injector extended warranty 10 years / 190,000 km from first registration (check eligibility)
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Expired or expiring on most F01 models
All F01 750i models are outside their original factory warranty. The N63 fuel injector warranty extension to 10 years may still apply to some late-production (2014-2015) LCI cars with low mileage. Verify eligibility with BMW using the VIN. Third-party extended warranties are available but often exclude known N63 issues.

Direct competitor with M278 biturbo V8. Similar AIRMATIC suspension costs. M278 has camshaft solenoid oil wicking risk instead of the N63's coolant and oil consumption issues.
Audi A8 4.2 TDI D4
