Reliable diesel, but emissions hardware and recalls need attention
The B47D20 in the G30 is a proven and generally robust four-cylinder diesel, with many owners reporting trouble-free running well beyond 150,000 km. The B47 keeps its timing chain at the transmission side of the engine and has not repeated the N47's chain failures. The ZF 8HP automatic is one of the most dependable transmissions available. Main ownership risks center on the diesel emissions equipment (EGR cooler recall, DPF, AdBlue system) and the cooling system rather than the engine's core mechanics.
