BMW 750e G70

Two separate recalls (24V104000 and 24V697000) have been issued for the integrated brake system on 2023-2024 750e models. Welds in the servomotor may fail, resulting in reduced braking performance and disabled stability control. BMW replaces the entire integrated brake module under recall at no cost. This is currently covered, but if a replacement unit fails outside warranty, the integrated brake module is an expensive component. Verify with BMW using the VIN that both brake recalls have been completed before purchase.

The G70's standard air suspension uses rubber bladders that develop cracks and leaks as they age. A leaking strut causes that corner to sag, and the compressor runs continuously to compensate, eventually burning itself out. On the G11 generation, air suspension issues typically appeared between 60,000 and 100,000 km. The G70 uses updated components, but the underlying technology is the same. A single OEM air strut costs approximately €1,200-1,800 including labor at a BMW dealer, with aftermarket options from around €800. Compressor replacement adds €800-1,500. If multiple struts fail in succession, total costs can reach €3,500 or more.

The KLE (Komfort-Lade-Elektronik) module is the onboard AC charger that converts mains power to charge the HV battery. It is a known weak point across BMW's PHEV range, from the 330e to the 745e. Symptoms include charging interruption errors, flashing red lights on the charge port, and eventually complete inability to charge via AC. The 750e uses Gen5 eDrive with an improved KLE, but early reports from other Gen5 BMW PHEVs suggest the issue is not fully resolved. Replacement typically costs €1,500-3,000 including labor (5-7 hours workshop time). The KLE may be covered under the PHEV battery warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) depending on BMW's interpretation of component coverage.

The B58 engine uses several plastic and composite components in its cooling system that are prone to degradation under thermal stress. The electric water pump, expansion tank, and thermostat housing are the most common failure points, typically appearing between 80,000 and 120,000 km. In the 750e, the cooling system also services the HV battery via a separate circuit, adding complexity. A water pump and thermostat replacement costs €600-1,200 at an independent specialist. If a coolant leak is left unaddressed, it can lead to overheating and potential damage to the electric motor cooling circuit. The B58's water pump uses a plastic impeller that can crack under prolonged heat cycling.

Early 2023 production G70 models experienced significant iDrive 8 instability, including screen freezes, unexpected reboots, and CarPlay disconnects. The system controls nearly all vehicle functions including climate, navigation, and camera displays. A soft reset (hold the volume knob for 70+ seconds) resolves most instances temporarily. BMW has addressed the worst bugs through software updates since mid-2023. Later production cars and those with up-to-date software are largely unaffected. If the head unit hardware fails (rare), replacement costs €1,500-3,000, but most issues are resolved with a free software update at the dealer.

A recall (24V714000 / KBA 14353R) covers 750e xDrive models built between June and July 2024. The double universal joint in the steering spindle can become damaged, leading to increased steering effort and unusual steering noises. BMW replaces the steering spindle free of charge. The narrow production window means only a small number of cars are affected globally (approximately 22,000 units across all affected models, with about 5,000 in Germany). If purchasing a car from this build period, verify the recall has been completed.

Modern BMW flagships have dozens of electronic control modules that remain partially active even when the car is parked. Normal sleep-mode draw should be below 50 mA, but draws of 80-300 mA have been reported when modules fail to enter sleep mode properly. The 750e's extensive electronics (HV system monitoring, air suspension, connectivity features) contribute to higher parasitic draw. The 12V AGM battery typically lasts 3-5 years. Replacement costs €250-450 for the battery itself, plus mandatory registration via BMW diagnostic equipment (€50-150 at a specialist). A quality trickle charger is recommended for cars not driven daily.

Recall 26V096000 covers 2024-2025 750e xDrive models where the AC electrical wiring harness routing allows damage during routine cabin air filter replacement. A damaged harness can short-circuit and potentially cause a fire. BMW estimates fewer than 1% of recalled vehicles are actually affected. The fix involves inspecting and, if needed, replacing the harness and adding a retaining bracket. This is a free recall repair. The risk to a used buyer is primarily that a previous owner or independent shop may have already damaged the harness during a filter change without realizing it.
