BMW's compact crossover-coupe built on the front-wheel-drive UKL2 platform shared with the X1 F48 and MINI Countryman. The sDrive18d pairs the 150 hp B47 turbodiesel with front-wheel drive. Fuel consumption sits around 4.5-5.5 l/100 km, and the sportier roofline gives it a more distinctive look than the X1 at the cost of some rear headroom and boot space. The B47 engine is a significant improvement over the earlier N47, with the timing chain relocated to the front of the engine.· more· less

B47 diesel: improved over N47 Good fuel economy, low road tax

Buy if: You want a fuel-efficient, stylish compact crossover and drive enough highway kilometers to keep the DPF healthy.

Common Problems
Solid diesel drivetrain, but EGR recall and DPF usage pattern matter
The BMW X2 F39 with the B47 2.0 turbodiesel is a dependable engine when properly maintained. The timing chain is at the front of the engine (unlike the problematic N47 predecessor), and many B47 engines exceed 200,000 km without major powertrain issues. The main concerns are the EGR cooler recall (verify completion), DPF health (avoid short-trip-only cars), and Aisin automatic gearbox longevity on early 2018 production units. Manual gearbox models eliminate the transmission concern entirely. A car with complete service history and regular highway use presents significantly lower risk.
