2000-2006 · 4.4L V8 M62TU (282-290 hp, 2000-2003) / N62 (320 hp, 2004-2006) petrol, 5-speed automatic, AWD
The original BMW X5 established the luxury sport-SUV segment when it arrived in 2000, and the 4.4i V8 was the flagship petrol variant. Two different V8 engines were fitted across the production run: the M62TU (2000-2003) with single VANOS, and the more powerful N62 (2004-2006) with Valvetronic. Both deliver strong performance and a smooth V8 character, but bring substantial maintenance demands. The E53 platform itself has proven durable, with robust transmissions and suspension geometry, though the cooling system, engine seals, and transfer case require careful attention as the vehicle ages.· more· less
