The KLE (Komfortladung Elektronik) module controls AC charging of the high-voltage battery. On earlier BMW PHEVs (330e F30, 530e G30, X3 G01 30e), this is one of the most frequently reported failures, with the module refusing to charge or throwing fault codes. The G45 uses an updated version, but the underlying design concept is carried over. Replacement at a BMW dealer typically runs around €2,000-2,500 including programming. Independent specialists can source the module for €1,200-1,500. Symptoms include the car stopping mid-charge, amber charge-port light, and error messages in the iDrive. Without a functioning KLE, the car becomes a conventional petrol SUV carrying an unused battery pack.

The B48 engine uses a plastic oil filter housing that is a known weak point across the entire B48/B46 range. The gasket deteriorates and the housing itself can crack, causing oil seepage onto the engine block. A class-action lawsuit has been filed in the US covering B46, B48, and B58 oil filter housing defects. On the G45, the updated housing design may improve longevity, but the fundamental plastic construction is unchanged. Replacement requires removal of surrounding components (about 2-4 hours of labor). Independent shops charge around €400-600 for the complete repair, while BMW dealers can run €800-1,200.

The B48 uses an electric water pump and a complex thermostat heat management module with plastic housings. The thermostat housing can crack and leak coolant, and the water pump impeller is plastic and can deteriorate. Typical failure window is 70,000-100,000 km. Symptoms include coolant warning lights, overheating, or poor cabin heating. Both components are often replaced together due to labor overlap. The repair is moderately complex (about 4 hours), as the alternator must be removed for access. Parts run €300-500 for the thermostat module plus €200-350 for the pump. BMW's xDrive system uses a transfer case that distributes torque between front and rear axles. The actuator motor inside can fail, and the fluid (which BMW considers lifetime) degrades over time, causing shuddering at low speeds, vibration at highway speed, or ABS/DSC warning lights. BMW PHEVs have complex electronics that maintain communication between HV and 12V systems even when parked. Normal sleep-mode draw should be below 50 mA, but the telematics control unit, infotainment, and alarm module can keep the draw at 80-300 mA, killing the 12V battery within one to two weeks. Software updates can reduce parasitic draw. Owners who park for extended periods should use a CTEK MXS 5.0 or BMW-approved battery maintainer. The AGM 12V battery costs €200-350 to replace, and diagnosis of the drain source adds to the total if an underlying module is faulty.

The G45 launched with iDrive 9 based on Android Open Source Project. Early owners report screen freezes, Bluetooth audio corruption during calls, ambient lighting bugs, and difficulty with over-the-air updates. The charging scheduling interface is occasionally unreliable, failing to start timed charging sessions. BMW has pushed multiple software updates (including the July 2025 RSU and November 2025 steering-related update) that address some issues. Most will be resolved through future OTA updates at no cost. If the head unit hardware fails (rare), replacement runs €1,500-2,500.

Multiple G45 owners on Bimmerpost report rattles from the tailgate, front doors, and B-pillar area. Reviewers note the interior feels noticeably cheaper than the outgoing G01, with harder plastics that are more prone to creaking from thermal expansion. Dealer fixes include felt tape on plastic stops, replaced door clips, and lubricated seals, but some owners report rattles returning within days. While not a mechanical concern, it affects daily driving comfort. Most early cars may need at least one warranty visit for trim adjustments.
