The E65 generation 7 Series was BMW's most technologically ambitious flagship of its era, featuring the first-generation iDrive, Valvetronic variable valve lift, and optional air suspension. The 750i arrived with the 2005 facelift, replacing the 745i with a larger 4.8-litre N62B48 V8 producing 367 hp. Heavy depreciation from original prices above €80,000 makes these available for under €10,000 today, but the gap between purchase price and running costs is significant.· more· less

Common Problems
High complexity means high ownership costs despite low purchase price
The E65 750i was BMW's most technologically complex car when new, and that complexity now works against used buyers. The N62B48 engine is fundamentally strong and can exceed 300,000 km with proper maintenance, but it is surrounded by known failure points: valve stem seals, coolant transfer pipe, oil leaks from multiple gaskets, and the Valvetronic system all demand attention. The electronics, including the MOST bus, CAS module, and iDrive, were first-generation systems that have not aged gracefully. Air suspension adds another layer of expense. Finding a specialist who understands these cars is essential. Approximately 1 in 5 E65 owners report relatively trouble-free experiences, but the majority will face multiple four-figure repair bills during ownership.

Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Expired on all E65 750i models
Extended warranty Third-party warranties available but typically exclude known N62 issues
All E65 750i models are well outside their original 2-year factory warranty. Third-party extended warranties are available but read the exclusions carefully. Many policies exclude pre-existing conditions, oil leaks, and air suspension components, which are the most likely failure areas on this car.
