2014-2021 · 2.0L M274 turbocharged inline-4 petrol (245 hp)

The W205 C-Class was a big leap in refinement and technology over the W204. The C300 uses the M274 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 245 hp, paired with the 9G-Tronic automatic. It offers a good balance of performance and efficiency for the segment, with a well-appointed interior that holds up reasonably well. The M274 is capable of reaching 200,000+ km with proper care, though it has several well-documented weak points that prospective buyers should investigate.

Refined ride quality and interior Strong 245 hp engine, good efficiency

Common Problems
Well-built but the M274 engine needs monitoring
The W205 C300 is a refined executive sedan that can reach high mileage with proper maintenance. The M274 engine is fundamentally robust but has several well-documented weak points: PCV valve failures are near-certain at some point, oil consumption runs higher than average, and early cars (2015-2017) may have wrist pin tolerance issues. The 9G-Tronic transmission is generally reliable but benefits from regular fluid changes despite being marketed as sealed for life. Post-2018 facelift models with the revised M264 engine are noticeably improved. Budget for the PCV repair at minimum, and have any pre-purchase car checked for cold-start noises.
