Compact Volvo estate on the P1 platform, sharing its Ford C1 underpinnings with the Focus Mk2 and Mazda3. The 2.4D uses Volvo's own D5244T8 five-cylinder turbodiesel producing 180 hp and 350-400 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed M66 manual or 5-speed Aisin AW55-51SN automatic. This engine is part of the well-known D5 family used across the S60, V70, XC90, and other models. Reliable core engine, but peripheral systems need attention
The D5244T8 five-cylinder is fundamentally a durable engine, and well-maintained examples commonly exceed 250,000 km. The core engine block and internals are robust. Problems concentrate on the intake and emissions systems: swirl flaps, EGR, and turbo actuator are the most frequently reported concerns. The P1 platform adds CEM water damage as a platform-wide vulnerability. Cars with the Aisin automatic gearbox carry an additional risk layer. Maintaining strict oil change intervals (every 15,000 km maximum), driving regular motorway runs for DPF health, and verifying the DPF regeneration software recall has been applied are the three most important preventive measures.
