The root cause appears to be a combination of the OEM rotor metallurgy and Volvo's pad compound. Switching to aftermarket pads with different compounds has reportedly reduced recurrence for many owners. Front discs and pads replacement costs €400-600, rear axle €350-500. A full set of rotors and pads runs €800-1,200 at a Volvo dealer. Owners who use the auto-hold function or Pilot Assist heavily report faster rear brake wear in particular.

The Sensus infotainment system is one of the most commonly reported issues on the SPA S60. When the display freezes, it temporarily disables climate control, navigation, audio, and parking sensor feedback. Volvo has released multiple software updates to address stability. A user-performed soft reset (hold the home button for 20-30 seconds) clears most temporary freezes. Dealer software updates cost €100-150 out of warranty for diagnosis and reflash.
