The entry-level petrol in Volvo's first-generation V60 estate. The T3 badge covers two engine families: the 1.6L Ford-derived GTDi (B4164T3, 150 hp, 2011-2015) and the VEA-family engines (1.5L or 2.0L, 152 hp, 2016-2018). Both are four-cylinder turbos with modest power for a car of this size, but running costs are lower than the T5. The V60 competes with the BMW 3 Series Touring and Audi A4 Avant, offering strong safety credentials and Scandinavian build quality at a slightly lower price point.· more· less

Common Problems
Reasonably reliable, but gearbox choice matters significantly
The V60 T3 is the most affordable petrol variant and benefits from lower engine stress than the T5 or T6. The main reliability differentiator is the transmission: manual and Aisin automatic cars are significantly more dependable than Powershift DCT-equipped models. The early 1.6L Ford-era engine (2011-2015) is simpler and avoids the VEA oil consumption concern. For 2016-2018 models, checking oil consumption history is important. Control arm bushings and PCV failure are predictable maintenance items that most owners will encounter by 100,000-120,000 km. With proper gearbox selection and regular service, the T3 can be a practical and affordable estate to own.

Contact Volvo with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The seatbelt and door latch recalls affect almost all first-generation V60 models and are particularly important to confirm.
Warranty Status

Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2014+ models
VEA oil consumption programme Extended warranty for affected 2016-2018 VEA engines, verify eligibility with Volvo
All V60 T3 Mk1 models are outside their original 2-year factory warranty. Volvo's 12-year rust perforation warranty may still be active on newer examples. For 2016-2018 VEA engines, check with a Volvo dealer whether the extended oil consumption programme applies.
