Common Problems
First-generation EV with significant software immaturity but solid drivetrain
The EX30 Twin Motor Performance has proven mechanically sound in its electric drivetrain, with no widespread motor or inverter failures reported. However, this is a software-heavy first-generation product, and it shows. The critical battery recall affecting 69 kWh packs must be verified as completed before any purchase. Daily-use frustrations like the unreliable digital key system and occasional infotainment crashes are the most commonly reported issues. OTA updates have progressively improved stability, and cars running software version 1.5.3 or later are notably better. The EX30 remains in active production in Europe, with Volvo continuing to address issues through updates.

The EX30 has had several safety recalls in its short production life. The battery fire risk recall (R10355) is the most critical and must be verified before any purchase. Contact Volvo with the VIN to confirm all campaigns are completed. Check both your national vehicle recall register and the Volvo recall lookup tool.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) May still apply on 2024-2025 cars depending on registration date
High-voltage battery (8 years / 160,000 km) Covers 70% state-of-health guarantee, transfers to new owners
Battery fire recall Free module replacement regardless of warranty status
Volvo offers a 2-year factory warranty in Europe with no km limit. The high-voltage battery is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km with a 70% capacity guarantee, and this warranty transfers to subsequent owners. Given the EX30 launched in late 2023, many early cars are approaching or past the 2-year mark. Verify remaining warranty with Volvo using the VIN.
