The EX90's 14.5-inch center display and driver cluster have been widely reported to freeze, go completely black, or reboot unexpectedly while driving. When the screen goes down, climate controls, navigation, and vehicle settings become temporarily inaccessible. Most occurrences resolve with a soft reboot (hold Home button 20 seconds) or are fixed by OTA software updates. However, in persistent cases, the central computing module or display unit itself may need replacement. Volvo is retrofitting 2025 models with a new dual Nvidia Orin computer free of charge, and the 2026 model year includes it from the factory. For used buyers outside warranty, a display module replacement at a Volvo dealer can cost around €2,500-3,000 including labor.

Multiple owners have reported the GHCA (Grid to High Voltage Converter A) module failing, which handles all AC charging. When it fails, the car cannot charge from any AC source (home wallbox or public AC stations). DC fast charging typically still works. The GHCA module (part number 32406411 or replacement 36012239) is an exchange part. Replacement including labor runs approximately €1,500-3,000 at Volvo dealers. Some owners have experienced extended waits for replacement parts due to supply chain issues. Under warranty, this is covered at no cost. Early EX90s can lose around 3% of battery capacity per 24 hours while parked because the Nvidia-based core computer does not fully enter sleep mode. Volvo has acknowledged this and stated it will be addressed through future software updates and the hardware upgrade to the dual-Orin computer. The car is programmed to stop this drain after 72 hours, but repeated short parking periods can accumulate significant range loss. This is primarily a software issue that costs nothing to fix if resolved via OTA, but if the underlying computing hardware needs replacement outside warranty, the cost increases. The 2026 model year vehicles have improved power management from the factory.

The EX90 relies heavily on digital key technology, and many owners report intermittent failures. Issues include the phone key not being recognized despite Bluetooth being active, the car disconnecting from the owner's Volvo ID after software updates, and the key requiring re-pairing at a dealer. The workaround is straightforward: always carry the backup key card. Most issues resolve through app restarts, Bluetooth toggling, or software updates. However, some cases require dealer intervention to re-pair the digital key system. If the Bluetooth module itself fails outside warranty, replacement costs around €300-500.

The EX90 features standard air suspension on all models. While no widespread failure pattern has emerged yet given the car's young age, Volvo's SPA-platform vehicles (including the XC90) have a documented history of air suspension issues. The compressor, valve block, and individual air springs are all potential failure points as the car ages. A single air strut replacement at a Volvo dealer costs approximately €1,200-1,800 per corner. A compressor replacement runs around €600-900. Volvo extended warranty coverage on earlier XC90 air suspension compressors after identifying a valve defect. For the EX90, these components are heavy-duty (the car weighs approximately 2,800 kg) and work hard, making them a longer-term concern beyond 60,000-80,000 km.

Owners report the EX90's extensive sensor suite occasionally producing false alerts: SRS airbag warnings on startup with no actual fault, Pilot Assist disengaging on well-marked highways, and phantom collision warnings in normal traffic. The 2024-2025 models have a Luminar lidar sensor that was initially passive (data collection only), with active functionality added in 2026. Volvo subsequently dropped Luminar entirely for 2026+ models due to supplier issues. Most false alerts resolve with software updates. If a physical sensor requires replacement or recalibration, costs vary: camera recalibration runs €200-400, while radar or lidar sensor replacement can reach €800-1,000.
