Compact premium SUV from Volvo's CMA platform, sharing architecture with the Polestar 2 and Lynk & Co 01. The B5 pairs the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol with a 48V mild hybrid system, integrated starter-generator, and AWD as standard. Most B5s are post-facelift cars (2022+) running Android Automotive infotainment. Issues are mostly software-related rather than mechanical, but the infotainment glitches and 12V battery drains are well-documented across owner forums.· more· less

Common Problems
Mechanically sound, software is the main weakness
The B5 powertrain itself is robust - the 2.0 Drive-E engine has matured well over a decade, the 48V mild hybrid hardware rarely fails, and the Aisin gearbox is reliable if serviced. The real ownership friction comes from software: 12V drain, infotainment freezes, and warning messages that often need dealer attention. Most issues are cheap to resolve but can be persistent. A car with all software updates current and a documented battery replacement is in good shape.
