In March 2025, Volvo recalled approximately 73,000 plug-in hybrids globally (around 8,000 in Sweden, 4,825 in Germany) due to a supplier process deviation in LG high-voltage battery modules produced between June 3, 2019 and November 30, 2021. The defect can cause an internal short circuit when the battery is fully charged and the vehicle is parked, with documented fire incidents. Owners were instructed not to charge until the recall was performed. Volvo replaces affected battery modules and updates monitoring software free of charge. Verify with VIN that the recall has been completed; if not, this becomes a critical issue. Out-of-warranty battery module replacement is €8,000-12,000. All SPA-based Volvo PHEVs use an ERAD at the rear axle for through-the-road AWD. Failures are predominantly documented on the more powerful T8 variants (where it works harder), but the T6 is not immune. Early units had insufficiently tightened bolts allowing fluid leaks and gear damage; later revisions are significantly more robust. Symptoms: grinding, whining, clicking, or hesitation under acceleration, eventually loss of rear-wheel propulsion. The Sensus infotainment system is one of the most widely reported issues on SPA-platform Volvos including the V60 Recharge. Symptoms: centre display freezes, goes black, or reboots spontaneously, temporarily disabling climate, navigation, and park-assist audio. Volvo has issued multiple software updates over the years; most cases resolve with a dealer update (€100-150 out of warranty for diagnosis and flash). A user-performed soft reset (hold home button 20-30 seconds) often clears temporary freezes. In rare cases the centre display module itself fails, costing €800-1,200 to replace. The powered tailgate on the V60 Mk2 is a common complaint, typically appearing after 30,000-60,000 km. PHEV V60s have well-documented 12V battery issues. The 12V battery does not recharge from the high-voltage drive battery during mains charging, so cars left unused or rarely driven on combustion power can develop parasitic drain leading to a fully discharged 12V in 10-14 days. Symptoms: car will not wake up, infotainment shows critical battery messages, doors will not unlock electronically. The Aisin AWF8F35 8-speed automatic used in the T6 Recharge is generally reliable but some owners report rough or jerky shifts, especially between lower gears, and clunking when transitioning between EV and engine drive. Volvo officially classifies the fluid as lifetime fill but specialists strongly recommend a fluid and filter change every 60,000-80,000 km, costing €300-500. Software updates have also addressed shift quality. Valve body replacement in rare severe cases is €1,500-3,000. Maintenance neglect is the main risk factor.

MOT and TÜV inspections frequently flag above-average wear on tie rod ends, ball joints, and lower control arm bushings on the V60 Mk2, accelerated by the Recharge's extra weight (the T6 is roughly 2,000 kg). Typical replacement intervals run from 80,000-120,000 km. Tie rod end replacement is €150-250 per side; lower control arm bushings €250-450 per side; full front-end refresh including aligning runs €700-900 at a specialist.
