Volvo's flagship executive sedan on the SPA platform, competing with the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The T6 uses Volvo's unique twincharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, combining a supercharger for low-rev response with a turbocharger for top-end power, paired with standard AWD and the Aisin 8-speed automatic. The S90 received a mild facelift in 2020 and was replaced by the B6 mild-hybrid badge from late 2020 in many markets, with production ending in late 2024.· more· less

Common Problems
Capable petrol drivetrain with complex twincharged engine and dated infotainment
The B4204T27 twincharged engine is generally robust but the supercharger clutch is a known wear point that becomes increasingly likely beyond 120,000 km, and replacement is expensive. Sensus infotainment quirks remain a persistent ownership annoyance even after multiple software updates. Coolant hoses, timing cover oil leaks, and water ingress are all manageable if caught early. Cars with documented Volvo dealer service history and complete software updates are the safest buy. Pre-2018 cars are most affected by early Drive-E teething issues; 2018+ cars are noticeably more refined.

Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all S90 T6 models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Active on 2016-2024 models until 2028-2036
Volvo extended warranty Available through Volvo dealers, recommended for out-of-warranty ownership
All S90 T6 models are now outside their original 2-year factory warranty. The 12-year rust perforation warranty may still be active depending on the production date. Given the complexity of the twincharged engine, an extended warranty or thorough pre-purchase inspection is recommended.
