The Taigo is Volkswagen's coupe-styled compact crossover, built on the MQB-A0 platform shared with the Polo and T-Cross. The 1.5 TSI is the range-topping engine, offering 150 hp and paired exclusively with a 7-speed DSG automatic in Europe. It shares its EA211 EVO engine with the Golf Mk8 and many other VW Group models, giving it a well-understood parts supply and broad dealer support.· more· less

Common Problems
Mainstream reliability with DSG and software as primary concerns
The 1.5 TSI EA211 EVO engine itself is well-proven across the VW Group, with no catastrophic failure patterns. The main ownership risk is the mandatory DQ200 dry-clutch DSG, which has a documented history of mechatronics and clutch issues across all VW Group models that use it. ACT cylinder deactivation can cause mild judder but is largely addressed by software updates. The infotainment system is a nuisance rather than a major cost risk. Most issues are well-documented and can be managed with regular servicing and DSG oil changes every 60,000 km.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Seatbelt reminder software fault (2020-2022 production, code 90V6) Verify completed
Front passenger airbag gas generator defect (2022-2025 production, code 69UN/69UK) Critical - verify completed
Contact a Volkswagen dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The 2025 airbag recall is particularly important: affected vehicles should not carry front-seat passengers until the airbag module is replaced.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on 2021-2023 models, may remain on 2024+
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Active on all Taigos
Paint warranty (3 years) Expired on 2021-2022 models
Most used Taigos are outside the original 2-year factory warranty. VW offers extended warranty packages through dealers. The DSG gearbox is not covered by a separate extended warranty unless purchased as an add-on.

Ford Puma 1.0 EcoBoost 2019-present
Different weak points: EcoBoost has coolant system and head gasket concerns. Generally reliable but 3-cylinder has less power than the Taigo 1.5.
