The performance flagship of the Volkswagen ID.7 range. The GTX adds a second asynchronous motor (AKA150) on the front axle to the standard rear permanent-magnet unit (APP550), producing a combined 250 kW (340 hp) with electric all-wheel drive. Built on the MEB platform with an 86 kWh battery, it offers up to 595 km WLTP range and DC fast charging at up to 200 kW. Positioned as a replacement for the Passat at the top of the Volkswagen electric sedan lineup.· more· less

Common Problems
Typical MEB platform issues, plus dual-motor complexity
The ID.7 GTX shares the MEB platform's known weak points: 12V battery drain, OCDC condensation risk, charge port actuator sticking, and software immaturity. The dual-motor AWD system adds a small additional risk from the front motor, though this has been less problematic on the ID.7 than on earlier GTX models. Most issues are addressed through software updates and recalls rather than expensive mechanical repairs. Cars with software version 4.0 or later and all recalls completed are substantially more reliable than early production examples.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
HV battery module defect (September 2023 - March 2024 production) Critical - verify completed
Front seat backrest mounting bolts (2022-2024 production, ID.4 and ID.7) Verify completed
Passenger airbag gas generator defect (May 2022 - May 2025 production, KBA ref 15191R) Critical - verify completed
OCDC condensation on circuit board (production before September 2024, related campaign 93CJ) Verify if applicable
Contact a Volkswagen dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls and service campaigns have been completed. The battery module recall and airbag recall are particularly important safety items. The OCDC campaign may not be formally classified as a recall in all markets but should be checked.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) May still apply on 2024-2025 cars
HV battery warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) Covers battery capacity above 70%
Electric drivetrain warranty 8 years / 160,000 km (motors, inverter, reducer)
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Active on all ID.7 models
The standard Volkswagen factory warranty is 2 years with no mileage limit. The high-voltage battery and electric drivetrain carry an 8-year / 160,000 km warranty covering defects and capacity degradation below 70%. Early 2024 production cars may be approaching warranty expiry for the base warranty, but the battery and drivetrain coverage extends well beyond typical used-car purchase dates.
