The long-wheelbase version of Volkswagen's electric panel van, adding 250 mm of length and a larger 86 kWh battery over the standard Cargo. Built at the Hannover Commercial Vehicles plant on the MEB platform, it pairs the more powerful 210 kW APP550 rear motor with up to 461 km WLTP range. Classified as a Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle, it receives a 3-year/100,000-mile factory warranty rather than the standard 2-year VW passenger car warranty.· more· less

Common Problems
Solid EV hardware, but software and electrical niggles require attention
The ID.Buzz Cargo LWB shares its core drivetrain with the well-proven MEB family. The APP550 electric motor and battery pack are mechanically robust, and long-term degradation data from other MEB vehicles is encouraging. However, the 12V battery drain, OCDC hardware defects, and infotainment bugs are real ownership annoyances that affect a significant proportion of early vehicles. The March 2026 battery module recall adds a further check for used buyers. Most issues are addressed through software updates and recalls, so verifying the vehicle is running the latest firmware and has all recall work completed is the single most important step when buying used.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
HV battery module non-compliance, risk of reduced range and fire (KBA 16271R, vehicles built June 2023 - August 2024) Critical - verify completed
OCDC condensation defect causing 12V battery charging failure (applies to MEB vehicles with affected OCDC units) Verify if applicable
Seatbelt compliance on rear bench seat (US-market specific, may not apply to Cargo) Verify if applicable
Contact a Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls and service campaigns have been completed. The battery module recall (KBA 16271R) is particularly important for vehicles built between June 2023 and August 2024.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years / 100,000 miles) Applies to all VW Commercial Vehicles including ID.Buzz Cargo
HV battery warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) Covers battery defects and capacity below 70%
Anti-corrosion body warranty 12 years
Pan-European roadside assistance 3 years, no mileage limit
The ID.Buzz Cargo benefits from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' 3-year warranty rather than the standard 2-year VW passenger car warranty. Early 2022-2023 models may now be outside this coverage. The 8-year/160,000 km HV battery warranty covers defects and excessive capacity loss (below 70% usable capacity) and remains active on all ID.Buzz Cargo models.
