The internal power inverter transistors overheat, and there is evidence of coolant intrusion into the unit. Symptoms begin with electrical system warnings and can escalate to a sudden, complete vehicle shutdown with loss of power steering and braking assist. A class action lawsuit resulted in a 10-year extended warranty from the original sale date. Used car buyers should verify coverage status with their VIN before purchase. The 3.0 V6 TDI has two intake manifolds, each containing swirl flaps controlled by electric actuators via plastic linkage rods. The ball joints connecting the rods wear over time, typically between 80,000 and 130,000 km. The ECU detects the resulting position deviation and triggers check engine light with fault codes P2015 or P2011. This causes the car to fail emissions testing. Aftermarket repair kits with upgraded linkage rods cost €50-100 per side and take 1-2 hours to fit. The downstream NOx sensor is the most common failure point, costing €400-600 to replace. Symptoms appear as a dashboard countdown: the car warns that it will not restart after a set distance. Common fault codes include P20EE (SCR catalyst efficiency below threshold) and P204F (reductant system performance). Using quality AdBlue fluid and avoiding very short trips helps prevent crystallization. The differential pressure sensor (€50-80) can also give false readings.

The V6 TDI layout concentrates EGR components deep in the engine valley, making both cleaning and replacement labour-intensive. Carbon buildup causes the EGR valve to stick, reducing engine efficiency and causing rough idle. More seriously, the EGR cooler can develop internal cracks, allowing coolant to mix with exhaust gases. Symptoms include gradual coolant loss without a visible external leak, white exhaust smoke, and reduced power. This typically occurs after 100,000-150,000 km. Valve-only cleaning or replacement runs €300-600. Full cooler replacement with gaskets costs €800-1,500 at a specialist due to the difficult access.

The EA897 evo uses a variable, map-controlled oil pump where the ECU reduces oil pressure at idle and light cruising to cut parasitic drag and improve emissions. While Audi states these low readings are by design, specialists have documented accelerated timing chain tensioner and turbo bearing wear on affected cars. Software recalibration to raise the minimum oil pressure targets costs €200-400 at an independent specialist. The VW Group adjusted the engine calibration in March 2020 production, but earlier cars (2018-2019) may still run the original maps. If bearing damage has already occurred, timing chain replacement can cost €2,000-3,000. Regular use of the correct long-life oil specification (VW 504.00/507.00) and monitoring oil level is essential.

The C8 A7 uses Audi's MIB 3 infotainment with dual touchscreens (upper for navigation and media, lower for climate and text input). Software glitches causing freezes or black screens are common and usually resolved with a soft reset: press and hold the volume knob for about 10 seconds. Persistent issues may require a software update at the dealer (€100-300). In rare cases, degraded internal flash memory chips require control module replacement at €1,500-2,500. Phone integration via CarPlay or Android Auto sometimes triggers reboot loops. Check whether the car has any outstanding software service campaigns before paying for hardware repairs.

Passive DPF regeneration requires sustained driving at motorway speeds where exhaust temperatures exceed approximately 600 degrees. Cars driven predominantly on short urban trips never reach these temperatures, causing soot to accumulate until the DPF warning light appears and eventually the car enters limp mode.
