Proven diesel engine on an immature new platform
The EA288 evo 2.0 TDI is a well-proven diesel that has demonstrated durability exceeding 250,000 km in the previous Q5 FY generation. However, the Mk3 Q5 is a first-year car on the entirely new PPC platform with the E3 1.2 electronics architecture, which has had significant software teething problems. Audi is actively addressing these through dealer-applied updates (KD2 and subsequent releases). The diesel-specific systems (twin-dosing AdBlue, DPF, EGR) carry the same maintenance demands as any modern diesel and are poorly suited to short-trip urban driving. The 48V MHEV system adds a new layer of complexity not present in older Q5 generations.
