Third-generation Q5 launched April 2025 on the new PPC platform shared with the A5. The 40 TDI pairs the EA288 evo 2.0 diesel with a 48V MHEV plus mild hybrid system that can drive the car briefly on electric power alone. Standard quattro and 7-speed DL501 S tronic. Too new for long-term data, but inherits known weak points and adds significant software/electronics complexity.· more· less

Strong torque and quattro traction Genuine fuel economy on long trips
Brand-new platform, unknown long-term Complex 48V MHEV plus electronics
Buy if: You drive long distances regularly, want diesel efficiency with strong AWD, and the car is still under factory warranty.

Common Problems
New platform with limited track record; warranty still applies
The Mk3 Q5 is too new for long-term reliability data. It inherits the EA288 evo engine (with the cylinder head cover issue acknowledged via recall on the predecessor), adds a 48V MHEV plus system as a new complexity, and shares the DL501 DCT and AdBlue architecture used across VW Group diesels. Most cars on the road remain inside Audi's 2-year warranty, which mitigates near-term cost risk.
