Audi RS3 2.5 TFSI 8P

2011-2012Last reviewed: April 2026 · How this report is builtApril 2026

2011-2012 · 2.5 TFSI CEPA (340 hp) 5-cylinder turbocharged petrol

The original RS3 was the first production car to use Audi's 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder engine in a compact body, producing 340 hp from the cast-iron-block CEPA unit. Only sold as a Sportback and exclusively with the DQ500 S tronic dual-clutch gearbox, it was produced for a short run in 2011-2012. The five-cylinder soundtrack and quattro traction made it a standout hot hatch, though the 8P platform feels noticeably older than the later 8V generation.

Carbon buildup on intake valves Injector failure risk is serious
Buy if: You want an appreciating modern classic with an iconic engine note and can commit to preventive injector and carbon maintenance.
Avoid if: You want low-maintenance performance or mostly do short urban trips where carbon buildup and Haldex neglect accelerate.

Common Problems
Robust engine, but preventive maintenance is non-negotiable
The 2.5 TFSI CEPA is a fundamentally strong engine that can exceed 200,000 km with proper care, but the direct-injection-only design demands regular carbon cleaning and injector monitoring. The DQ500 gearbox is reliable when serviced on schedule, and the Haldex system requires attention that standard Audi servicing does not always provide. Many RS3 8P examples have been driven hard, so a complete and verifiable service history covering engine oil, S tronic fluid, and Haldex fluid is essential.
