Audi's third-generation Q5 launched in late 2024 on the entirely new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture, shared with the redesigned A5. It pairs the latest EA888 evo5 2.0 TFSI with a 48V MHEV plus mild-hybrid system and a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. Build quality and refinement are high, but the new electronic architecture has caused a wave of early-production software issues that Audi is still working through.· more· less

Buy if: You want a current-generation premium SUV and can confirm the KD2 software baseline has been applied and factory warranty is fully transferable.

Common Problems
New platform dominated by software risk, mechanical reliability unproven
The Q5 Mk3's dominant risk is the immature PPC electronic architecture, which has produced a high volume of software-related complaints in the first year of production. Engine stalling, display blackouts, false ADAS warnings, and MHEV integration bugs are all documented. The KD2 software baseline addresses many of these, but not all. The EA888 evo5 engine itself descends from a well-proven family, and the 7-speed S tronic is a known quantity, so catastrophic mechanical failure is unlikely in the short term. However, too few high-mileage Mk3 Q5s exist to assess long-term reliability of the MHEV plus system, the new PPC electronics, or the evo5 variant specifically. Buyers should verify the KD2 update has been applied, confirm warranty status is transferable, and prioritize cars built after mid-2025 production when most launch-phase bugs were addressed at the factory.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Front seat belt pretensioner defect (Q5/SQ5 built July-December 2025, NHTSA 25V-294) Critical - verify completed
KD2 combined software baseline update, TSB 2079690 (all 2025 Q5/SQ5) Verify applied
DC-DC converter and 48V battery management calibration update (early Mk3 production) Verify completed if applicable
The Mk3 Q5 is on a brand-new platform, and active TSBs and software campaigns are evolving rapidly. A critical seat belt pretensioner recall (NHTSA 25V-294) affects Q5 and SQ5 models built between July and December 2025, requiring free replacement of one or both front seat belt assemblies. Contact an Audi dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls and updates have been applied, particularly the KD2 software baseline and the seat belt recall.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Active on all Mk3 Q5 cars as of mid-2026
Audi mobility and breakdown cover Active for the duration of the warranty period
Rust perforation warranty 12 years from first registration
Paint warranty 3 years from first registration
All Q5 Mk3 vehicles are still within the original Audi 2-year factory warranty as of mid-2026. This is the buyer's single most important financial protection given the volume of documented software, ADAS, and MHEV issues on this new platform. Strongly consider purchasing extended Audi warranty coverage before the factory warranty expires. Without warranty, even software-related dealer visits cost €150-300 each.
