The SQ8 e-tron is the performance flagship of Audi's first-generation electric SUV line, built in Brussels from 2023 until production ended in February 2025. It uses three asynchronous motors (one APA320 at the front, two ATA250 at the rear) producing 370 kW and 973 Nm, with electric torque vectoring on the rear axle. The 114 kWh battery (106 kWh usable, Samsung SDI cells) delivers around 350-450 km real-world range depending on driving style.· more· less

Common Problems
Performance flagship on a proven platform, but the tri-motor adds complexity
The SQ8 e-tron shares the strengths and weaknesses of the Q8 e-tron platform: Samsung SDI batteries with low degradation, solid build quality, and a mature air suspension system. The key difference is the tri-motor drivetrain: three motors means three coolant seal failure points instead of two, and the motor warranty is only 2 years in Europe (US owners received 10 years). At 2,725 kg, the SQ8 is also harder on brakes and tires than the standard variants. With production having ended in February 2025, long-term software support is uncertain, though hardware parts should remain available through the VAG network. Budget for the motor seal risk and verify all recall work before buying.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Brake pedal booster screw torque (46P7) - pushrod screw connecting pedal to booster may loosen, causing brake pedal to detach. Builds Feb 2018 - Jun 2024, 96,180 vehicles globally. Critical - verify completed
Brake pressure line over-tightened (47DE) - connection may fail causing brake fluid leak. Builds May 2023 - Mar 2024. Critical - verify completed
Driver side airbag mounting - may not be properly secured to seatback frame. 2023-2024 SQ8 e-tron models. Verify completed
Front passenger occupant detection system (ODS) - electrical connection may loosen, deactivating passenger airbag. 2023-2024 models. Verify completed
Rearview camera image delay/failure (90TV) - software error can prevent backup camera display. 2019-2026 Audi models. Verify completed
Portable charging cable overheating risk - cable may overheat during use. Multiple Audi EV and PHEV models. Verify completed
The brake pedal recall (46P7) is the most safety-critical item: the pushrod screw connecting brake pedal to booster can detach, resulting in loss of braking. This affects nearly 100,000 vehicles globally, with owner notifications sent in April 2026. Contact Audi with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. Since production ended in February 2025, ensure all final software updates and recall work are documented.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years, no km limit) May still apply on late 2024 builds. Verify expiry date with VIN.
HV battery warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) Covers capacity below 70%. Samsung SDI cells. Check remaining years.
Motor warranty (EU) Standard 2 years only. No EU extension (US received 10 years / 190,000 km).
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Active on all SQ8 e-trons, valid until at least 2035.
The most recent SQ8 e-trons (late 2024 builds) may still be within factory warranty. However, the motor coolant seal failure is the most expensive potential issue and is covered for only 2 years in Europe, while US owners received a 10-year extension. The HV battery retains 8-year coverage. Verify remaining warranty with Audi using the VIN, especially given that production has ended and no successor model exists.
