Audi's third-generation Q5 moves to the new PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) architecture shared with the Audi A5. The 40 TFSI pairs a 2.0-litre EA888 evo four-cylinder with a 48V MHEV plus mild-hybrid system and the 7-speed DL382 S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. Available in front-wheel or quattro all-wheel drive, the Mk3 brings an entirely new E3 1.2 electronics architecture, digital OLED taillights, and a substantially more spacious cabin. Production for Europe began in Q1 2025.· more· less

Common Problems
New platform with strong fundamentals but immature software
The Mk3 Q5 40 TFSI combines a well-proven engine family (EA888 evo) with an entirely new electronics architecture (E3 1.2) and vehicle platform (PPC). The engine itself is the most mature component and benefits from years of incremental improvements across the Volkswagen Group. The main ownership concern in the early years will be software maturity: ADAS bugs, false warnings, and infotainment glitches are widely reported and require dealer visits for updates. Mechanically, the water pump housing and control arm bushings are inherited weak points from the EA888 platform. The 48V MHEV plus system adds a layer of complexity with limited long-term data. Overall, this is a car that will likely improve significantly through software updates over its first two years of production.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Seatbelt pretensioner manufacturing defect (production July-December 2025) Verify completed
Multiple software-related TSBs for ADAS, drivetrain warnings, and infotainment (2025 model year) TSB
Contact Audi with the VIN to verify all recalls and technical service bulletins have been completed. The seatbelt recall is particularly important for cars produced in the second half of 2025. Multiple software-related TSBs exist for early production cars.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Likely still active on most used examples
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Active on all Mk3 Q5 models
MHEV battery warranty Covered under standard warranty (2 years)
Most used Mk3 Q5 models will still be within their 2-year factory warranty given the car launched in Q1 2025. Verify the exact warranty expiry date with the VIN. Audi offers extended warranty programs (Audi Garantie) for additional coverage beyond the standard 2 years.
