The Citroën ë-Berlingo is a fully electric version of the practical Mk3 Berlingo MPV, sharing its 100 kW motor and 50 kWh battery with the Peugeot e-Rifter and Opel Combo-e Life. It offers a WLTP range of around 280 km, making it best suited to families doing mostly urban and suburban driving. The van-derived body brings exceptional interior space and versatility, with sliding rear doors and a flat floor, in a package that requires far less maintenance than its petrol or diesel siblings.· more· less

Common Problems
Low routine costs, but Stellantis EV-specific risks remain
The ë-Berlingo benefits from the inherent simplicity of an electric drivetrain - no oil changes, no timing belt, no exhaust system to corrode. Routine maintenance costs are roughly half those of the diesel Berlingo. However, the Stellantis e-CMP powertrain has documented weak points, particularly the integrated OBC/DC-DC module and the 12V battery management design. Most issues are software-related and resolvable with updates, but an OBC failure outside warranty is a significant expense. Verify all recall work has been completed, especially the 2022 battery software recall, and keep the car plugged in when parked to avoid 12V drain.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Battery control unit software calibration (2022 production, KBA 012476/012477) - incorrect cell voltage/temperature detection could cause loss of drive Critical - verify completed
HV battery software preventing sudden engine stop (2022-2023 models) - software not working properly to prevent sudden stop Verify completed
Maximum tyre load capacity lower than rear axle weight (2022-2023 models) Verify completed
Starting difficulties and loss of drive - BMU software update for multiple Citroën models (2022-2023) Verify completed
Contact Citroën with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The battery control unit software recall is particularly critical for 2022 models as it directly affects safe driving.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on 2021-2023 models, may remain on late 2024+
Traction battery warranty 8 years / 160,000 km with 70% capacity guarantee
OBC extended warranty 4 years on some vehicles - verify with dealer
Rust perforation warranty 12 years from first registration
Most used ë-Berlingos will be outside the standard 2-year factory warranty. The 8-year battery warranty is the most valuable remaining coverage. Verify whether the OBC extended warranty (4 years) applies to the specific vehicle, as this is the most expensive potential repair.
