The Peugeot 307 replaced the hugely successful 306 and won European Car of the Year in 2002. The 1.4 HDi version uses the small but durable DV4TD diesel engine with a BorgWarner KP35 turbo, producing 68 hp. It was the entry-level diesel, valued for low fuel consumption and cheap insurance. The car sold in large numbers across Europe and parts remain widely available. A facelift in 2005 improved the dashboard and electrical systems.· more· less

Very low fuel consumption Cheap parts and insurance
BSI electrical module failures Suspension bushes wear quickly
Buy if: You want a cheap, fuel-efficient runabout and can find one with documented service history and no electrical gremlins.
Avoid if: You dislike troubleshooting electrical faults or need a car that feels refined at motorway speeds (the 68 hp engine is underpowered for fast roads).

Common Problems
Affordable to run but expect electrical and suspension niggles
The DV4TD 1.4 HDi engine is fundamentally robust and can reach 200,000+ km with proper oil changes. The main ownership concerns are the 307's electrical system (particularly the BSI module on pre-facelift cars) and the rapidly wearing front suspension bushes. Turbo and injector issues are real but preventable with disciplined oil change intervals. No DPF is fitted to the 1.4 HDi, which removes one of the biggest concerns associated with other HDi engines of this era. Parts are cheap and widely available. The car rewards diligent preventive maintenance.
