Peugeot's fastback crossover blends SUV proportions with coupe-like styling, and the Hybrid 180 is the entry-level plug-in option. It shares its 1.6 PureTech four-cylinder, 12.4 kWh battery, and Aisin e-EAT8 gearbox with the more powerful Hybrid 225, differing only in software calibration. The 1.6 PureTech uses a timing chain rather than the problematic wet belt found in smaller PureTech engines, which is a meaningful reliability advantage.· more· less

1.6 PureTech: chain, not wet belt Smooth electric-only urban driving
Real-world EV range often below claim Multiple fuel system recalls early on
Buy if: You have a home charger, want a distinctive PHEV fastback, and can confirm all fuel system and charging cable recalls have been completed.
Avoid if: You rarely charge the battery (fuel economy drops sharply without regular charging) or need trouble-free electronics and infotainment.

Common Problems
Young model with recall history but improving reliability
The 408 PHEV is a relatively new model with limited long-term data. Multiple fuel system recalls in its first two years of production are concerning but have been addressed by Stellantis. The 1.6 PureTech engine is the more reliable member of the PureTech family (compared to the troublesome 1.2 with its wet belt), and the Aisin EAT8 gearbox has a solid track record across millions of Stellantis vehicles. The main ownership risks centre on PHEV-specific systems (battery degradation, charging, hybrid control software) and the infotainment system. Regular charging and software updates are key to trouble-free ownership.

Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) May still apply on 2024-2025 cars. Check purchase date.
Traction battery warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) 70% capacity guarantee. Covers all current 408 PHEVs until at least 2031.
Peugeot Allure Care Extended warranty available through Peugeot dealers for additional coverage.
Early 2023 models are now approaching the end of their 2-year factory warranty. The traction battery is separately covered for 8 years / 160,000 km with a 70% capacity guarantee. Peugeot's Allure Care program offers extended warranty options that may be worth considering given the PHEV system complexity.
