The top-spec petrol RCZ, built by Magna Steyr in Austria and powered by the BMW/PSA Prince engine in its strongest 200 hp tune (EP6CDTX). Compared to the 156 hp version, the 200 gets a revised cylinder head with dual VVT and variable valve lift, a larger turbocharger, shorter-ratio six-speed manual, reinforced front suspension with 407/C5 hubs, and 340 mm front brake discs. Forum consensus is that the 200 hp variant is more reliable than the 156 hp, though it shares the same engine family and core weak points.· more· less

Common Problems
Better than the 156 hp, but still needs attentive ownership
The THP 200 (EP6CDTX) is widely regarded as the more reliable of the two petrol RCZ variants, with its improved VVT system and revised cylinder head. However, it shares the Prince engine family's core weak points: timing chain tensioner degradation, HPFP failures, and inevitable carbon buildup from direct injection. The shorter-ratio gearbox means the clutch and dual mass flywheel can wear faster under spirited driving. Post-November 2011 production cars with the updated timing chain tensioner are notably safer purchases. Diligent maintenance (5W-30 oil changes every 10,000 km, 98 octane fuel, regular spirited driving) significantly extends the engine's life.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Front brake hose deterioration from contact with adjacent components (Dec 2009 - Mar 2010 production) Verify completed
Coolant temperature sensor fault (2010-2013 production, various batches) Verify completed
Turbo cooling pump software update (2010-2012 production) Verify completed
Takata airbag inflator replacement (2010-2015 production) Critical - verify completed
Contact a Peugeot dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls and manufacturer notices have been completed. The Takata airbag recall is safety-critical and Stellantis continues to issue reminders for affected vehicles. Peugeot also issues manufacturer notices that may not appear in public recall databases.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all RCZ models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Expired or expiring (2010-2015 production)
Extended warranty Third-party options available, check exclusions carefully
All Peugeot RCZ models are well outside their original 2-year factory warranty. Third-party extended warranties may be available but often exclude known THP engine issues (timing chain, HPFP, turbo). Check exclusion lists carefully before purchasing coverage. The 12-year rust perforation warranty means the earliest 2010 models have already expired.
