Peugeot 508 2.0 BlueHDi Mk1

2010-2018Last reviewed: May 2026 · How this report is builtMay 2026

2010-2018 · 2.0 HDi / BlueHDi DW10 (140-180 hp) 4-cylinder turbodiesel

The 508 Mk1 was Peugeot's D-segment contender, competing with the Mondeo, Passat, and Insignia. The 2.0 HDi / BlueHDi diesel is the volume powertrain, offered in outputs from 140 to 180 hp. The DW10 engine family is fundamentally robust and proven across millions of PSA, Ford, and Jaguar vehicles. Examples exceeding 300,000 km exist. The 2014 facelift introduced Euro 6 compliance with AdBlue injection, which adds a layer of emissions system complexity.

Proven DW10 engine, 300k+ km capable Spacious and comfortable cruiser
AdBlue system faults (2014+ models) Rear subframe bushings wear early
Buy if: You want a spacious diesel cruiser for regular motorway use and can find one with complete service history and no DPF warning history.
Avoid if: You mostly drive short urban trips (DPF and EGR problems) or want hassle-free electronics.

Common Problems
Robust engine, but diesel emissions systems and electrics need attention
The DW10 2.0 HDi engine is fundamentally durable and can reach very high mileages with proper maintenance. Most ownership concerns centre on the emissions systems (DPF on all models, AdBlue on 2014+ BlueHDi variants), the rear subframe bushings, and the electronic parking brake. Cars with regular motorway use and complete service history present significantly lower risk. Pre-2014 HDi models avoid the AdBlue system entirely but use the older Eolys-assisted DPF. Post-2014 BlueHDi models are more refined but add SCR complexity.
Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Timing belt premature wear in dusty conditions (Apr 2015 - Apr 2018 production, campaign KLZ) Critical - verify completed
Urea (AdBlue) injector malfunction - MIL fails to illuminate (Jun 2020 - Nov 2022 production) Verify completed
Fuel leak risk from fuel pipe routing (selected 2011-2012 production) Verify completed
Airbag deployment fault (selected production periods) Verify completed
Gearbox actuator fault on automated manual gearbox (selected production periods) Verify completed
Takata airbag inflator recall (affected production years vary) Verify completed
The Peugeot 508 Mk1 has been recalled multiple times. The timing belt recall (campaign KLZ, affecting April 2015 to April 2018 production) is particularly important for 2.0 HDi models as premature belt failure can destroy the engine. Contact a Peugeot dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all 508 Mk1 models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2014-2018 models
Extended warranty Third-party options available; check exclusions for DPF and turbo
All Peugeot 508 Mk1 models are well outside their original 2-year factory warranty. Peugeot's 12-year rust perforation warranty may still cover 2014-2018 models. Third-party extended warranties are available but typically exclude known wear items like the DPF, dual mass flywheel, and turbocharger on high-mileage diesels.

↔ Also consider

Peugeot 308 1.6 HDi T7 2007-2013 Smaller PSA diesel. The 1.6 HDi has the notorious injector seal-to-turbo failure chain that the 2.0 HDi largely avoids. Volkswagen Passat B7 2.0 TDI 2010-2014 Direct competitor. More refined interior. EA189 TDI has its own DPF/EGR concerns and shares a parking brake weakness, but avoids the subframe bushing issue. Ford Mondeo Mk4 2.0 TDCi 2007-2014 Same DW10 engine co-developed with PSA. Mondeo has trailing arm bush issues instead of subframe bushings. Cheaper parts. Peugeot 3008 Mk2 1.5 BlueHDi 2017-2024 Newer Peugeot with smaller DV5 engine. The 1.5 has a serious timing chain recall. Different risk profile entirely. Opel Insignia A 2.0 CDTI 2008-2017 Similar running costs. Insignia has the critical oil pump pickup seal issue and M32 gearbox bearing weakness.
