The Peugeot 308 T7 was a solid-selling European compact, and the 2.0 HDi with the DW10BTED4 engine is widely regarded as the most reliable diesel option in the range. Where the smaller 1.6 HDi suffers from a notorious injector-seal-to-turbo failure chain, the 2.0 is a fundamentally sturdier engine with many examples exceeding 300,000 km in taxi and fleet service. It shares its platform and many components with the Citroen C4 and was produced in 136 hp and later 150 hp variants.· more· less

Robust DW10 engine, proven durable Strong torque and good fuel economy
Turbo vane actuator can stick DPF and EGR need regular motorway use
Buy if: You cover regular longer journeys, can verify the timing belt history, and find one with a complete service record showing consistent oil changes.
Avoid if: You mostly drive short urban trips under 15 km (DPF and EGR will clog) or cannot verify the timing belt has been replaced on schedule.

Common Problems
Sturdy diesel engine with standard diesel-age maintenance needs
The DW10BTED4 is widely considered one of PSA's most robust diesel engines, with many examples exceeding 300,000 km in commercial and fleet service. Unlike the smaller 1.6 HDi, the 2.0 does not suffer from the notorious injector seal to turbo oil-feed failure chain. The main concerns are standard diesel-age issues: turbo vane sticking, DPF clogging on short trips, EGR carbon buildup, and eventual DMF wear. Cars with documented motorway use, regular oil changes, and completed timing belt service are the best candidates.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Engine relay unit incorrectly specified (Feb-Jun 2008 production) Verify completed
Brake master cylinder deterioration risk (Dec 2006-Sep 2009 production) Verify completed
Fuel return pipe chafing against filter bracket (Mar-Oct 2010 production) Verify completed
Steering assembly rack insufficiently tightened (selected VINs, 2012) Verify completed
Bonnet striker insufficiently secured (various production dates) Verify completed
Brake vacuum pump valve defect (Dec 2006-Sep 2009 production) Verify completed
Contact a Peugeot dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The brake-related recalls (master cylinder and vacuum pump) are particularly important for safety. Due to the age of these vehicles, confirm with the dealer that no outstanding technical service bulletins remain.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all T7 models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Expired on all models
Extended warranty Third-party options available, check exclusions for turbo and DPF
All Peugeot 308 T7 models are well outside their original 2-year factory warranty and 12-year rust perforation warranty. Third-party extended warranties are available but typically exclude turbochargers, DPFs, dual mass flywheels, and injectors on high-mileage diesel cars. Read exclusion clauses carefully before purchasing.

Peugeot 308 1.6 HDi T7
Peugeot 308 1.6 HDi T7 2007-2013
Same platform, smaller DV6 diesel. The 1.6 has a well-known injector seal to turbo oil-feed failure chain that the 2.0 does not share. Higher risk overall.
Volkswagen Golf Mk6 2.0 TDI
Volkswagen Golf Mk6 2.0 TDI 2008-2013
Similar reliability. Golf has intake manifold flap and EGR issues worsened by the Dieselgate software fix. Higher purchase price.
Ford Focus Mk2 1.6 TDCi
Ford Focus Mk2 1.6 TDCi 2004-2011
Uses the same-era PSA DV6 diesel as the 308 1.6 HDi. Ford-specific weak points include EPAS steering rack failure and water ingress.
Renault Megane Mk3 1.5 dCi
Renault Megane Mk3 1.5 dCi 2008-2016
Proven K9K diesel with similar DPF and EGR risks. Renault has more electrical gremlins but the engine itself is durable.
Peugeot 308 T9 1.6 BlueHDi
Peugeot 308 T9 1.6 BlueHDi 2013-2021
Successor generation with improved build quality and updated diesel. Adds AdBlue system complexity but better emissions control.
