Peugeot's fastback crossover bridges the gap between hatchback and SUV with distinctive styling and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain combining the 1.6 PureTech four-cylinder with an 81 kW electric motor. The 225 hp PHEV is the flagship powertrain, offering around 50-60 km of electric range in optimal conditions. Positioned against the Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid and BMW 330e, it offers striking design and reasonable everyday efficiency when charged regularly.· more· less

Common Problems
Young model with recall history but improving reliability
The 408 PHEV is a relatively new model with limited long-term data. Multiple fuel system recalls in its first two years of production are concerning but have been addressed by Stellantis. The 1.6 PureTech engine itself is the more reliable member of the PureTech family (compared to the troublesome 1.2), and the Aisin EAT8 gearbox has a solid track record across millions of Stellantis vehicles. The main ownership risks center on PHEV-specific systems (battery degradation, charging, hybrid control software) and the infotainment system. Regular charging and software updates are key to trouble-free ownership.
