2009-2016 · 1.4 HDi DV4C (68 hp) 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel

A simple, economical city car that returns excellent fuel economy from its small turbodiesel. The 1.4 HDi DV4C is a well-proven PSA unit found across many French group models. Running costs are low and parts are widely available, though the car does require attentive maintenance of its turbo oil feed system and injector seals to avoid preventable failures.

Very low fuel consumption Cheap parts and simple mechanicals
Turbo oil feed prone to sludging ECU vulnerable to water ingress
Buy if: You want an affordable, fuel-efficient city car with a manual gearbox and can keep up with regular oil changes.
Avoid if: You mainly drive short trips (DPF clogging risk) or want a car that tolerates neglected maintenance.
Expected Annual Maintenance Costs
€550 - €1,050/year
15,000 km/year
Fixed costs
€350-600
Risk buffer

Common Problems
Reliable if well maintained, but punishes neglect
The 1.4 HDi DV4C is a fundamentally solid engine that can comfortably exceed 200,000 km when properly maintained. The critical requirement is regular oil changes with quality oil — extended intervals lead to sludge that blocks the turbo oil feed and accelerates injector seal deterioration. Cars with full service history and regular motorway use tend to have far fewer problems than urban-only examples. The main risk items are individually moderate in cost but can compound if maintenance has been neglected.
