The Skoda Yeti carved out a loyal following as one of the most practical and characterful compact crossovers of its era. The 1.6 TDI version uses the Volkswagen Group's CAYC common-rail diesel with 105 hp and a 5-speed manual gearbox, available only in front-wheel drive. It remains popular on the used market for its versatility, good fuel economy, and straightforward mechanicals.· more· less

Common Problems
Reliable for its class, but EGR and DPF need attention
The Yeti 1.6 TDI is a dependable compact crossover with a well-understood engine. The CAYC engine can comfortably exceed 200,000 km with proper maintenance. The main concerns center on the EGR system (worsened by the Dieselgate emissions fix), DPF health on short-trip cars, and Siemens injector issues on pre-2013 models. Cars driven regularly on motorways and serviced on schedule tend to be trouble-free. Avoid examples with incomplete service history or signs of heavy urban-only use.

Takata airbag propellant deterioration (2012-2014 production) Verify completed
Driver airbag inflator defect (2014-2016 production) Verify completed

Dieselgate emissions software recall (EA189 1.6 TDI, all production years) Verify if applicable
Contact a Skoda dealer with the VIN to verify all recall work has been completed. The Takata airbag recalls are safety-critical. The Dieselgate emissions recall is technically mandatory in many EU countries but has been linked to increased EGR and DPF issues on some cars.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all used Yetis
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2014+ models
Extended warranty availability Available through Skoda dealers and third-party providers
All Skoda Yeti models are outside their original 2-year factory warranty. Cars from 2014 onward may still be within the 12-year rust perforation warranty. Third-party extended warranties are available but check exclusions carefully, particularly for diesel emissions components.
