The diesel vRS combines 170 hp performance with the Octavia Mk2's generous interior space. Built on the PQ35 platform shared with the Golf Mk5/Mk6 and SEAT Leon Mk2, the RS TDI was available with two engine variants: the earlier BMN Pumpe-Duese (PD) unit from 2006, and the smoother CEGA common rail (CR) version from late 2008. Both produce 170 hp and 350 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DQ250 wet-clutch DSG. The CR variant is generally the more refined and reliable of the two.· more· less

Buy if: You want a fast, fuel-efficient diesel estate and can find a CR variant (2009+) with full service history and completed injector recall.
Avoid if: The car has mainly done short urban trips (DPF clogging) or you are looking at a high-mileage PD variant without documented injector and timing belt history.

Common Problems
Performance diesel with known weak points, but manageable costs
The Octavia RS 2.0 TDI Mk2 is a capable performer that rewards informed buyers. The CR variant (2009+) is generally more reliable than the earlier PD, which has documented injector and tandem pump vulnerabilities. Both variants share common diesel issues like DPF clogging and EGR buildup. The dual mass flywheel wears faster than on lower-powered variants due to the higher torque output. With a complete service history, documented recall completion, and regular highway use, many examples exceed 200,000 km without major expense.
