Common Problems
Reliable engine, but DSG gearbox is the main concern
The 1.5 TSI EA211 evo is a well-proven engine with millions of units in service across VW Group vehicles. Most engine-related issues are minor and well-documented. The primary reliability concern is the DQ200 dry-clutch DSG automatic. Manual gearbox versions are significantly more reliable overall. Early cars benefit from the February 2020 software update for cold-start kangarooing. With proper maintenance and regular DSG oil changes, most Superb 1.5 TSI models provide dependable service.
