The Skoda Yeti earned a cult following for its boxy practicality and surprisingly capable handling. The 1.2 TSI is the entry-level petrol, pairing the compact EA111 four-cylinder turbo with front-wheel drive. It was produced from 2009 to 2017 before being replaced by the Karoq. Parts availability is excellent thanks to widespread use of the 1.2 TSI across the VW Group (Polo, Fabia, Ibiza, Golf). The engine went through important updates in mid-2011 (wider chain, improved tensioner) and was eventually replaced by a timing-belt EA211 variant from around 2015.· more· less

Buy if: You want an affordable compact crossover with good practicality, and can verify the timing chain condition or find a post-2011 example with documented service history.
Avoid if: You are looking at a pre-2012 car with no timing chain service record, or need a DSG automatic (the DQ200 dry-clutch unit is the least reliable part of this drivetrain).

Common Problems
Affordable and practical, but timing chain and wiring need attention
The Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI is a capable small crossover with a well-proven engine platform, but the timing chain (especially on pre-mid-2011 engines) is a genuine concern that demands attention. Post-2011 cars with the revised chain components are notably more reliable. Door wiring loom failures are nearly certain on pre-2012 cars but inexpensive to fix. The turbo actuator issue is common but manageable. Manual gearbox models avoid the DSG-related headaches entirely. With proper inspection and documented service history, the 1.2 TSI Yeti can provide dependable ownership at low running costs.

Contact a Skoda dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The camshaft adjuster recall (15H4) and Takata airbag recalls are particularly important. Use the official Skoda recall checker at skoda-auto.com/services/recall-campaigns.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all Yetis
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Expired or expiring (last Yetis built 2017)
Extended warranty Generally not available for cars of this age
All Skoda Yetis are now well outside their original 2-year factory warranty. The 12-year anti-perforation warranty may still theoretically apply to the very last cars built in 2017, but in practice rust on doors is rarely covered as it is considered a surface corrosion issue rather than structural perforation.
