The Mk2 Octavia with the 1.4 TSI arrived from late 2008 as part of the facelift, giving the spacious Czech family car its first small-displacement turbo petrol option. Built on the PQ35 platform shared with the Golf Mk5/6, it uses the EA111 CAXA engine producing 122 hp. The Octavia still offers near-Passat interior space at a compact-class price, and parts availability across Europe remains excellent.· more· less

Common Problems
Reliable when maintained, but timing chain and DSG need attention
The 1.4 TSI CAXA engine is generally well-regarded and can reach 200,000+ km with proper care, but the timing chain tensioner and oil consumption on pre-2012 cars are genuine weak points that demand monitoring. Manual gearbox versions are significantly more reliable than those with the DQ200 DSG automatic. Water pump failure is common but affordable to fix. With documented service history and a clean cold start, this is a sensible used buy. Budget for timing chain and water pump work if not already done.
