2008-2015 · 2.0 TDI CR EA189 (140-170 hp) 4-cylinder turbodiesel

Spacious mid-size saloon and estate that offered near-Passat quality at a lower price. The 2.0 TDI Common Rail engine (codes CBBB, CFGB, CFFB) replaced the older Pumpe-Duse unit during production and is significantly more reliable. Available with 140 or 170 hp and either a 6-speed manual or DSG automatic, the Superb Mk2 remains a popular choice for high-mileage family and business use across Europe.

Exceptional interior space for its class Robust CR diesel engine
DSG gearbox unreliable (if equipped) DPF clogs on short-trip cars
Buy if: You need a roomy, efficient motorway cruiser with a manual gearbox and can verify the timing belt and recall history.
Avoid if: You mainly do short urban trips or are looking at a DSG automatic variant without full gearbox service records.

Common Problems
Reliable when maintained, but DSG and emissions systems need attention
The Superb Mk2 2.0 TDI CR engine is a significant improvement over older Pumpe-Duse units. The main vulnerabilities are the DSG gearbox (if equipped), DPF/EGR systems on short-trip cars, and the dual mass flywheel on manuals. Cars driven regularly on motorways with complete service histories are the safest choice. Manual gearbox versions with consistent long-distance use are the most reliable configuration.
