The Skoda Yeti was a compact crossover that carved out a loyal following thanks to its boxy practicality, surprisingly good handling, and sensible pricing. The 1.4 TSI petrol spans two engine generations: the earlier EA111 (122 hp, 2009-2013) with a timing chain, and the later EA211 (125/150 hp, 2014-2017) with a timing belt. Both are widely used across the VW Group and parts availability is excellent. The Yeti was replaced by the Karoq in 2017.· more· less

Buy if: You want a practical compact crossover with a petrol engine and can verify whether it has the improved EA211 engine or a well-maintained EA111.
Avoid if: You are looking at a pre-2014 car with unknown timing chain history or a DSG-equipped model without documented gearbox servicing.

Common Problems
Engine generation matters: EA211 is significantly more reliable than EA111
The Yeti's reliability depends heavily on which engine is fitted. Post-2014 cars with the EA211 engine (timing belt, improved turbo) are notably more dependable, while pre-2014 EA111 cars require careful timing chain monitoring. Regardless of engine, the door wiring loom is a known weak point on older examples, and DSG-equipped cars carry meaningfully higher transmission risk than manuals. With proper servicing history and the right pre-purchase checks, the Yeti remains a practical and cost-effective crossover.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Takata driver airbag inflator (2012-2017 production) Critical - verify completed
Front seatbelt tensioner crimp defect (2017 model year) Verify completed
Side airbag inflator casing (selected production dates) Verify completed
Diesel emissions recall (2.0 TDI only, does not apply to 1.4 TSI) Not applicable
Contact a Skoda dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The Takata airbag recall is particularly important as it affects a wide production range (2012-2017) and involves a serious safety risk if the inflator deteriorates.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all used Yetis
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2014+ models
DSG extended warranty 5 years / 150,000 km (check with Skoda for eligibility)
All Skoda Yetis are outside their original 2-year factory warranty. The 12-year rust perforation warranty may still cover some newer examples. If the car has a DSG gearbox, check whether the extended DSG warranty still applies.
