The transfer case in the 958 Cayenne is a well-documented weak point affecting all drivetrain variants. Symptoms include vibration under acceleration and drivetrain shuddering. The problem stems from inadequate lubrication and moisture ingress into the transfer case fluid. Porsche acknowledged the issue and extended the warranty: 10 years with unlimited mileage for 2011-2014 models, and 7 years with unlimited mileage for 2015-2018 models. Repair at an independent specialist costs around €1,500 using a bearing repair kit (parts approx. €500), while a Porsche dealer exchange unit runs €3,500-4,500.
