The first diesel-powered Porsche, introduced in February 2009. The Audi-sourced 3.0 V6 TDI produces 240 hp and 550 Nm of torque, offering strong motorway performance with fuel consumption around 9-10 l/100 km. Built on the facelifted 957 platform (shared with the VW Touareg and Audi Q7), it avoids the bore scoring risk that plagues the V8 Cayenne models. The diesel was only available for two model years before the 958 generation replaced it, making it a relatively rare variant.· more· less

Common Problems
Reliable diesel engine on an ageing platform that needs attention
The 3.0 V6 TDI is widely regarded as one of the most dependable engines offered in the first-generation Cayenne, avoiding the bore scoring risk that haunts the V8 models. Many owners report trouble-free running past 200,000 km with proper maintenance. However, the 957 platform brings its own set of age-related concerns: the driveshaft centre bearing will need replacement on virtually every car, the air suspension (if fitted) is expensive to maintain, and water ingress from blocked drains is a recurring issue. Diesel-specific items like the DPF and EGR system are manageable with regular motorway driving but problematic for short-trip use. Cars with steel springs, complete service history, and documented long-distance use are significantly safer purchases.
