The 981 Cayman GTS is the highest-performing non-GT variant of the last naturally aspirated Cayman generation. It uses the same 3.4-litre flat-six as the Cayman S, tuned to 340 hp through ECU recalibration and a lower-restriction sport exhaust. Sport Chrono with PADM active engine mounts, the PSE sport exhaust, and 20-inch Carrera S wheels are standard equipment. Available with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed PDK, the GTS is free from the IMS bearing issues that affected earlier generations.· more· less

Common Problems
Reliable sports car, but GTS-standard equipment adds failure points
The 981 Cayman GTS shares the fundamentally robust 9A1 flat-six with no IMS bearing risk. The engine itself is very reliable, with bore scoring being rare on properly maintained examples. However, the GTS's standard Sport Chrono package (PADM active engine mounts) and PSE sport exhaust introduce two known failure-prone components that the base Cayman and even some S models avoid entirely. Most other issues are age-related cosmetic items (door panels, headlights, AC condensers) common across the entire 981 platform. High-mileage examples exceeding 150,000 km exist without major powertrain problems.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Rear axle carrier side section fracture risk (2014-2015 Cayman GTS) Critical - verify completed
Tank leakage diagnosis module and carbon canister air filter (2014-2016 models) Verify completed
Airbag control unit software update (2015-2016 models) Verify if applicable
Check your VIN at recall.porsche.com to verify all recalls and service campaigns have been completed. The rear axle carrier recall (AMB7) is particularly important for 2014-2015 GTS models as unrepaired cars pose a safety risk.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all 981 Cayman GTS models
Porsche Approved warranty Available through Porsche dealers for qualifying cars
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply for 2014-2016 models
All 981 Cayman GTS models are outside their original 2-year factory warranty. Porsche Approved extended warranty is available through Porsche dealers for cars meeting age and condition requirements. The 12-year rust perforation warranty may still cover later production 981 GTS models.
