The 992 Carrera 4S is the all-wheel-drive performance variant of the current 911 generation, sharing its 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six with the Carrera S but adding Porsche's multi-plate clutch AWD system. Unlike earlier generations where the 4S had a wider rear body, all 992 models share the same wide-body shell. The 9A2 Evo engine uses plasma-coated cylinder liners, eliminating the IMS bearing and bore scoring concerns of older 911s. An 8-speed PDK is standard. Porsche launched the facelifted 992.2 4S with 480 hp in mid-2025.· more· less

Common Problems
One of the most reliable sports cars currently in production
The 992 Carrera 4S shares the strong reliability reputation of the 992 platform. The 9A2 Evo engine has no IMS bearing, no bore scoring risk, and improved turbo oil line design over its 991.2 predecessor. The AWD system adds the front drive shaft joints and transfer case as additional service points, but these are robust components with few reported failures beyond the early production torque issue. Most reported problems are moderate-cost items: PADM sensor failures (Sport Chrono cars only), lithium battery management (preventable with a trickle charger), windshield seal degradation, and the usual 911 vulnerabilities to stone damage and spoiler mechanism wear. PDK transmission failures are rare. Early 2019-2020 builds had several manufacturing-related recalls (windshield bonding, engine mounts, front drive shafts), but most have been addressed through service campaigns.
